Functional Theory and the Role of Media in Europe

Media companies play an integral role in the development of democracy. The media also determine the cohesion of social systems. For this reason I decided to introduce the active role of mass media in the context of functional theory. In the first part of the article I describe demands and assumptions of the above paradigm. In the next part I present European institutions which monitor the functioning of media and the implementation of sociological analyses.
