Television in Greece in the era of socialist dream of Andreas Papandreu

Andreas Papandreu is one of the most well-known Greek living in the 20th century. He was the creator of PASOK and served as Prime Minister of Greece in the 1980s and 1990s. The goal of this paper is to present activities of Andreas Papandreu’s government in 1981–1985 towards the sector of television. Special emphasis is being put on instrumentalization of public service broadcasting. The chapter argues that media policies of left-wing oriented Papandreu were a part of His ‘socialist dream’, which could have been observed in relation to all fields of societal, economical and political environments of Greece in the 1980s.
