Mass Media and Politics in Zimbabwe
Krystian Chołaszczyński
The Republic of Zimbabwe is an example of a multi-ethnic state. Since its recognition in 1980, one party and one president have continuously been in power. During this period, the Zimbabwean mass media were at the service of the ruling class, and especially president Robert Mugabe. The situation changed only after signing an interparty agreement in 2008, when ZANU-PF lost their parliamentary majority and a government of unity was created. Recently, changes leading to a possible abolition of the current monopoly can be observed. The article aims at presenting and defining the reasons for the current state of affairs in Zimbabwe.
