The coverage of EU enlargement in press published by Verlagsgruppe Passau
Justyna Woźna
The article presents the results of the content analysis of two different regional dailies published by the Verlagsgruppe Passau in Germany ("Passauer Neue Presse") and in Poland ("Gazeta Wrocławska"). The aim of the research was to compare the coverage on the enlargement of the European Union in 2004, when Poland became a full member of the community. Drawing on definitions of framing, the paper focuses on the similarities and differences in the coverage of both newspapers. Moreover, the research explores the extent to which there is an affinity between the framing of the issue by the 'PNP' and German quality newspapers on the one hand, and the 'GWr' and Polish newspapers on the other hand. The study covers the period between 1.06.2001 and 30.06.2004 which refers to the most advanced stage of negotiations between Poland and EU and first two months of Polish membership in the European Union.
