Germany in the editorials of Andrzej Szczypiorski

The article introduces the subject of Germans and Germanism and the evolution of these concepts in the editorials of Andrzej Szczypiorski. The texts Szczypiorski published between 1965 and 2000 show the extensiveness of the writer's interests. He was keen on social matters and history, politics, the problem of German guilt and punishment and the relations between Germans and Poles. His personal experience and numerous travels to Eastern and Western Germany played an important part in shaping his views.The analysis of his texts indicates, that they reflect the changes characteristic of the general picture of the author's journalism. Up until the mid-1970s Szczypiorski takes a stance in accordance with the official Polish policy, however in his later statements he emphasises his own, individual judgement.
