"Socialism with a Human Face". The Struggle Over Healing the System Based on the Analysis of the Articles Published in the "Po prostu" Weekly Between 1954 and 1957
Dominika Rafalska-Kuś
The article is an analysis of chosen intervention reportages published in the "Po prostu" weekly in mid-fifties. The reportages describe major social problems, such as poverty, injustice, power abuse, and human rights violation. All of them cast a shadow over the image of an ideal system like socialism was meant to be. Journalists of the "Po prostu" weekly had never hidden their faith in the system. All the more they were hurt with all irregularities and perversions of the system. All the more they were willing to describe them. "Po prostu" went down in history of Polish journalism due to, among other things, brave intervention articles dealing with problems of people in a socialist state. The aim of the paper is to analyse, basing on some most pointedly written texts, the way in which editors of the "Po prostu" weekly realised the slogan "socialism with a human face".
