The media system in India

The Indian media market is one of the fastest growing in the world. The dynamic economic rise of “the biggest democracy in the world” fosters growth in all media sectors. Since the economic liberalization in the early 1990s, the Indian media market has had huge potential for expansion and development – both for Indian investors, as well as international media corporations. The article presents a history of media development in India – from the first newspapers during colonial times to contemporary Indian press, television, radio, Internet and issues connected with freedom of the media.
