School press – definitions, features and functions. A case study of periodicals in West Pomeranian Voivodesship

The article describes the school press, as an example of the local (or more precisely) environmental types of press. It briefly discusses the history of the school periodicals, with particular emphasis on their role in the Second Republic of Poland. Due to the existing definitional disputes article proposes the re-wording of the “press school”. Based on content analysis of school periodicals appearing in Western Pomerania in 2010–2014 it described the contemporary school press, bearing in mind the types, characteristics, and functions of the school press. The latter put the emphasis on contribution to educational process and fostering demands of media education.
