The Press Research Association "Stopka" was formed in 1981 in Łomża. It works in the area of documentary writing, education, the study and popularisation of reading, the development of regional and local cultural and scientific, literary and journalistic groups. It is also concerned with the study, protection and development of culture. The society possesses collections of old newspapers and journals. Among its most interesting initiatives are the Gloger prize and competitions for journals: Wschodnie losy Polaków and Zachodnie losy Polaków.
