Metaphors in the Polish and Czech Printed Media in the Context of the EU Accession

This article deals with the metaphors used in the Polish and Czech printed media in the context of European Union. The article compares the metaphoric models presented in both of the countries, their common and variant characters. The examples come from the daily press: Gazeta Wyborcza, Nasz Dziennik, MF Dnes, Lidové noviny, Právo and weekly periodicals Wprost and Polityka. All texts were published in the years 2002-2004 and are connected thematically regarding the access of Poland and the Czech Republic into the EU. The same objects, e.g. EU, its institutions, member states, nations and their problems can be presented and perceived in different ways by each of the press titles. This article analyses the 14 most common metaphorical models connected with the image of the EU.
