Regional Polish Radio Stations as Media Co-Creating Regions of Periodic Media Communication

Marek Jachimowski

Radio is a medium which brings the world closer together, what is far away in terms of quantity of time and territorial distance as well as that which is close but not direct. It is a medium which enables people to find out about the world in its variety, grandness and multidimensionality. However, these are not the only attributes responsible for the development of radio broadcasting. For the most part, the success of radio was due to its persuasive characteristics as a medium. These attributes were especially exploited by the sphere of power and the commercial sphere. The initial characteristic of radio - communication and not persuasion was attractive to local and regional communities. The development of radio in Poland from the very beginning was always tied to grass root citizens. initiatives which can be best illustrated on the example of radio in Greater Poland.
