Public relations as a function in the activity of the Internet users
Rafał Ilnicki
The purpose of the article is to show how media forge us into shaping our appearance in different ways. The main thesis is that almost all the Internet user activity is focused on creating, editing and interacting with their own images. The consequence of this “image turn” is the necessity to work with these images, therefore our telepresent functioning resembles that of an organization, which has to manage its relations with the constantly changing environment. I will argue that three different modes of PR are basic for our mediatized life – image, avatar and profile. To summarize, I will outline the consequences of these changes in a broader cultural context.
