Demokracy and the media

Contemporary media arę not only the source of information and opinions. They play an important role in education, culture, they protect citizens against the abuse of power, indecency and incompetence, thus becoming the fourth power Yet they are something more - due to their growing potential and technological progress. Here, with our own eyes we see how the most powerful main media, especially the audiovisual, are used by various forces, which do not hesitate to act through media in order to get (sometimes exelusively) famous. These attempts may be fair and noble, yet sometimes may be mean and dramatic. Could we imagine the acts of terrorism which we witnessed not long ago, without publicity in media, especially in television
