Radiomorphosis Within the Context of Evolution, Adaptation and Media Convergence

Tomasz Goban-Klas

The radio, which in 2005 celebrated its 80th anniversary, despite competition from television, press and the Internet, has not become a 'dead' medium. It is still multifunctional and omnipresent in our lives. It has not given in to the expansion of TV because it underwent a technical and programming transformation. In the new century it still faces significant challenges in the sphere of implementation of digital technologies. The future of radio is the digital radio DAB (T-DAB, ground; S-DAB, satellite) in the European uniform Eureka 147 system. Another challenge for radio, although less so than traditional TV, is the Internet. New media are becoming increasingly interactive. At the same time, adapting to new technologies, they are fragmentising their previous mass audiences.
