Choice of Music Repertorie in Traditional and Internet Radio Stations

The first part of the article presents scientific views on how traditional radio stations decide what music to play on the air. The second part of the text analyses a new type of internet radio station - Last.fm, concentrating on the ways in which it monitors music preferences of the listeners and uses this knowledge to shape music repertorie. In the last part of the article, the author compares Last.fm to music shops and attempts to answer the question whether Last.fm has a chance to become a success as a subscription service.
