Towards Political Independence. Polish Press Agency over the Last 15 Years
Justyna Gaj
Polish Press Agency (PAP), the key propaganda tool of the communist regime in former years, after the system change pursues neutrality from any political influence. The article contains PAP's historical outline against other European and world information agencies. It also touches upon legal basis for its operation as well as financing. After 15 years of a new media order, in the era of pluralism in information accessibility, PAP is subject to market conditions struggling on a daily basis to be the most reliable and the quickest in providing information to almost every news media in Poland Media independence is one of the axioms of democracy. From that point of view, orientation of information agencies has a plainly symbolic meaning.
