English version of the article
This articles analyses the results of research on journalists (a group of around 200 people) working for local media in the Częstochowa area between 1989 and 2007. It took into account factors such as demographics, qualifications, reasons for choosing this career, career path, responsibilities and level of independence. The group of journalists researched reflects the state of the local media in that area. The early 1990s media boom has resulted in tripling the number of journalists employed. Later, closing down of many local newspapers and growing processes of concentration on urban electronic media has lead to the number of employed journalists decreasing back to the level from before the boom.
