Psycho-sociological Aspects of Television Viewing

Mariusz Dróżdż

At present human being is surrounded by the loads of information doming from the tv screen. Their perception is not accompanied by the skill in selecting and estimating of it’s values and reality. The world seems to be different to different people depending on the map that was drawn by their authors: journalists and editors. One might think that it is easy to understand the ideas of the authors. Unfortunately the multiple meaning of the program can be dangerous, because it means that authors have a lot of power that they don’t quite realize they have. It should be worth making the research about how the television programs are percepted by the audience. One of the factors determining the perception is the hermeneutic code existing in most of the tv production. You can spot it in the newscast very rarely. That makes it easy to do all the editing job and helps to keeps the audience interested, but at the same time it doesn’t help remembering the program. That is one of the reasons why contemporary education should prepare people to watch television and understand it.
