Mistakes in text segmentation as a cause of communication interference
Jagoda Bloch
The article concerns mistakes in communication resulting from ill use of text segmentation by journalists, which in effect, interfere with the logic of the statement. Pauses made in inappropriate places, or no pauses where there should be, can lead to misunderstanding the message. The proper division of statements into phrases is connected with the skillful use of logical pauses. The article contains examples of using pauses in unthought through, random places, or pauses that were created due to lack of possibility to draw a breath. It happened that pauses in a journalist’s speech were filled with unarticulated sounds, which also interfere with understanding the message.
