Teaching journalists or media education? Technologies - cognition - communication

Zbigniew Bauer, Andrzej Wojnach

The authors suggest that the traditional accoutrements of a journalist - psychological abilities, talent or a knowledge of technology are no longer significant in this profession or considered as features which predestine journalists to perceive themselves as a social elite. The reason for this is that the need for interpretation, analysis and synthesis of facts is gradually disappearing. Today a journalist must reveal reality, must make it visible, or rather visual, while most courses teaching journalism are based on formulas characteristic of times when the dominant type of communication was through the medium of print or print and photography.
